Dear Panther Families,

It was a great week of learning. Our teachers had time on Monday to reflect on learning goals, further analyze beginning of the year assessment data and plan lessons.

We enjoyed talking with many of you at both the Principals Coffee and the PTA meeting this morning.

Next Thursday evening, from 5:30-6:15, Kim Keleher, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will be sharing more information about the AAP Level IV Referral Process in the LA Room. In addition, from 6:00-6:45, teachers and lesson plans will be available in the cafeteria if you need to preview the Family Life Education Lessons. There is no presentation at the FLE Preview. It is just an opportunity for parents to see the lessons. The session is a PARENT ONLY event. NO students will be allowed in the session.

Have a great weekend!

PTES Celebrates our Veterans

Veterans Day is fast approaching!  This year we are continuing our Poplar Tree tradition of honoring our students’ military family members who have been or who are currently deployed overseas or serving in the military with our photo slideshow and our Annual Veterans Day Assembly.

We are asking parents to e-mail or send in an actual photo of their military family member to Leslie Leisey. E-mailing is the best method.  Please include rank and military branch.  Please have all pictures to Leslie Leisey by Friday, November 1.

If you sent in a picture for a previous Veterans Day Slideshow and would like it to be included in the 2019 slideshow, please email Leslie Leisey  or Holly Walker and provide the name/names of your loved ones.  There is no need to send a new photo.

Reminder: Our in school celebration is Friday, November 8 at 9:00am. If you haven't already, please RSVP to Holly Walker by October 31 for each Veteran planning to attend the celebration.

We look forward to honoring all of our Veterans with the photo slideshow and the assembly!!

Dear Panther Families,

We were so excited to see many of you at the Principals Coffee and the PTA meeting.

Please read carefully below about arrival and dismissal safety. Parents, staff, community members and the crossing guard officers have shared with us that they have witnessed some unsafe practices at arrival and dismissal. Please take a moment to look at the information below. We need everyone's help to ensure all students are safe at arrival and dismissal each day.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Lockdown Drill #2

Safety Reminders
  • Kiss and Ride is located in the parking lot and loading/unloading locations are at the end of the lot. Students are to be loaded/unloaded only at the designated location above. You may not pass in Kiss and Ride for any reason.
  • The Crossing Guard is located at the crosswalk indicated above. Students who are crossing Melville without an adult should only cross with the Crossing Guard.
  • The front lot is the bus loop and NO cars should enter that lot while buses are there. Buses are in the front lot from 8:20-8:50am and 3:15-3:50pm. Driving into the front lot while buses are present means you are passing buses that have students who are loading/unloading, which is illegal and unsafe.
  • Please be mindful of your speed in the Kiss and Ride area and around the school. Students are walking, riding bikes and loading/unloading into cars and buses throughout the school grounds and the community.

Chantilly Pyramid Mental Health Google Sites and FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference

FCPS aims to support the positive mental health and wellness of all students.  School counselors are excited to share our mental health resource site for the Chantilly community.  We have created a site for parents/guardians located here at https://sites.google.com/view/chantillycounselorsresources/home.  If you have specific questions or needs, please contact your child’s school counselor directly.

All counselors in the Chantilly Pyramid encourage families to attend the sixth annual FCPS Mental Health and Wellness Conference sponsored by Inova being held on Saturday, October 5, at Fairfax High School from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  Participants will be able to choose from a wide variety of breakout sessions, and there will be many resource tables available, representing public and private offices and agencies providing services within our schools.  More information is available on the Mental Health and Wellness Conference webpage.

Dear Region 5 Communities,

Each of the 32 schools in Region 5 of Fairfax County Public Schools are uniting together to support the humanitarian crisis that has occurred in the Bahamas due to Hurricane Dorian. We have all witnessed the devastation from this deadly storm and we want to be able to help. There is an estimated 18,000 children in crisis, and many children have lost everything they own. So we are calling each of our communities to action!

Over the next two weeks, we will be fundraising by using a GoFundMe page. The link is below which also includes a link to a video for more information. All proceeds will go to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). Our funds will go to water, shelter, food, clothes, backpacks, books, and other school materials.

Please join Region 5 in making a difference. Any amount can be helpful! The fundraiser will run from Wednesday, September 18 to Friday, October 4

Please click this link to go to our GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/sam3qu-hurricane-dorian-relief
