    Dear Families,

In our efforts to keep you well informed, we want to let you know that we have been experiencing some problems with our air conditioning (AC) system. The AC system has not been running to its fullest capacity which has resulted in warmer temperatures in the building. These problems have impacted the second floor more than our first floor. The Fairfax County Public Schools HVAC technicians and supervisors have been on site daily to monitor and make repairs to the system.  Due to repairs that have been made thus far, the classroom temperatures are cooler today. We are keeping a close eye on students and are making adjustments as needed including moving classes that become too warm into alternative locations. We hope to have a fully functional system very soon.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

    Sincerely,

    Sad News

    Dear Families,

Earlier today we learned that one of our students, Mutaz Basaif, had died while traveling overseas with his family.  Mutaz was a fourth-grade student in Mrs. Walter’s class. Many students had worked with Mutaz as a classroom buddy and he was certainly well loved by our school community.

At this time, Mutaz’s family has not shared the funeral arrangements with the school.

On behalf of all members of the school staff, our deepest condolences are with the family and friends during this difficult time. Mutaz was a child who warmed the heart of everyone who knew him and he will be missed by us all.

Please call the school if you would like to talk with one of our mental health professionals.  We all share in the unfortunate grief of the family.  Thank you for your support and understanding.

    Very truly yours,

    Sue Andujar                                        Holly Walker

All families will receive bus information through email messages and phone calls directly from the FCPS Transportation office. Parents and students can also use MapNet via Blackboard FCPS 24-7 Learning to access bus stop information and approximate times for pickup and drop off. Students will see the link for transportation when they log in to their Blackboard FCPS 24-7 Learning accounts. Students are expected to ride their assigned bus and should arrive at their assigned bus stop approximately five to ten minutes before the indicated arrival time of the bus.

    Bus Delay Notification System

Parents may access the following link https://busdelay.fcps.edu/  or the FCPS Mobile App to receive the delayed bus report.  Morning route information will be available through 12 p.m.  The afternoon route information will be updated from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m.  It is normal to expect a high volume of delays the first week of school. This system will be active on August 28th. Both KIT and Bus Delay Notification systems will run simultaneously until further notice.

    FCPSOn Information for Parents

The Chantilly Pyramid is so excited to be starting Year 3 of FCPSOn, a digital transformation of teaching and learning. This initiative has enabled our students to have equitable access to technology and our teachers to creatively incorporate the Portrait of a Graduate skills into everyday work. Students in kindergarten through sixth grade will each receive a personal device to use for the school year.

Students in grades three through six are expected to take their device home nightly to complete necessary schoolwork, charge the device for the next day, and bring it back the following school day. Just like in previous years, they will be given a carrying case to transport the device safely. Students will not be able to take their devices home until the SR&R form has been returned to the school. The SR&R includes an acceptable use policy for student network access.

Student devices will be distributed by the teacher during the first few weeks of school. Teachers will be helping students to create and reset last year’s password, begin ongoing discussions about digital citizenship and appropriate use and get their online core tool accounts setup.

Please review the FCPSOn Checkout Program Acceptance document  below.

Also, please review the Student Device Guidelines found here.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the school at 703-633-7400. Additionally, our School Based Technology Specialist, Leslie Leisey, will be available to answer questions during Back To School Night on September 4 and 17.

Fairfax County Public Library’s Summer Reading Adventure Helps Kids Read for Fun

Many studies have found that reading for pleasure is beneficial for kids in many ways, including keeping up their reading skills over the summer and helping them succeed in school.

Fairfax County Public Library helps make reading fun by providing tools, access, and incentives during its Summer Reading Adventure. Held in cooperation with Fairfax County Public Schools, the Summer Reading Adventure runs June 15 through September 1 and invites all children and teens—birth through high school—to read for fun over the summer. This year’s theme is “Reading Takes You Everywhere.” To participate, register online or visit a branch beginning June 15.

Message from FCPS about G Suite for Education

G Suite for Education is available to your student over the summer, as it has been in the past.  All files created by, or shared with, your student will continue to be available to them.  We encourage you to explore G Suite for Education with your children by logging in together. We suggest having your student log in to his or her FCPS G Suite for Education account at home to show you what they are currently working on.

Your student will use his or her network login credentials to access G Suite for Education. Students in grades 4-12 have the ability to reset their password using the Account Recovery service; however recovery options must be set up in advance. Your student can visit the same link to set up those options.

Summer is also the perfect time to revisit the rules in your household for technology and media use. The FCPS Digital Citizenship website has Device Contracts and Family Media Agreements (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12) that can help you guide family conversations. Translations of these documents are available on the FCPS 24-7 ParentVUE Digital Citizenship curriculum tab. There is also a free online Digital Citizenship course available for parents and their children to work through together.

More information on G Suite for Education can be found on the FCPS Website.
