Fully Accredited

Full accreditation in math and language arts for an elementary school in Virginia is a testament to the school's commitment to providing a quality education for its students. This means the school has exceeded the state of Virginia's rigorous standards in these subject areas. 

Advance Academics

Poplar Tree offers a continuum of services for elementary students to meet their current academic needs. We offer Advanced Academic services along the continuum of services. Poplar Tree ES has a full-time AAP center in grades 3-6. 

Young Scholars

Poplar Tree offers the Young Scholars program designed to identify and support students with high academic potential who may face barriers to access and reach their full potential in Advanced Academic Programming. This may include students who are economically disadvantaged, twice exceptional, multilingual learners.

Student Programs

We have a variety of student-led programs like the Paw Tech Squad, patrols, PE Pals, morning news show, inclusive book clubs, and SCA. These benefit students by improving communication and cooperation skills, enhance student self-confidence, and highlight creative expression. 

Active and Supportive PTA

Our PTA helps to enhance the school community, increase our resources by fundraising, offers many before and after school programming for students, and helps to advocate for the needs of the students and school.

Poplar Tree House System

All students and staff are members of a House System which builds community, develops positive character traits, highlights student voice, and allows for collaboration across grade levels to make our school a better place.  

Purple Star School

All classrooms at Poplar Tree Elementary School start each day with the Classroom Morning Meeting.  Morning Meeting builds community, enhances social-emotional skills, boosts academic performance, helps to establish routines, provokes active learning, and supports individual student needs. 

Multilingual Language Support

Poplar Tree Elementary provides support for students who are multilingual learners. Services are individualized to meet each students' English language development needs, specifically through engaging in reading tasks, writing tasks, and academic conversations.

Local Level IV Elementary

Through the 1 to 1 initiative, students can explore a vast array of information, collaborate with peers, and engage in interactive learning experiences with digital tools. All students have access to technology. Kindergarten students have access to iPads, while students in grades 1 - 6 have access to laptops.

Inclusive Programs for All Students

We provide support for students with disabilities. In addition to school-age services, Poplar Tree is a site based school, offering Preschool Autism, Preschool Classbased, Intellectual Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities Severe, and Enhanced Autism Services.
